Our specialists recommend the optimal materials to achieve your desired artistic expression.

1. Encounters with Rare Materials

Pigment Tokyo is a place to explore the very source of artistic creation: the materials themselves. This includes 4,500 pigments, iwa-enogu (mineral pigments), nikawa (animal glue binder), and varieties of haku (metal leaf).

Many of these materials cannot be found in ordinary art supply stores. The selection ranges from traditional Japanese washi (paper), sumi (ink), and fude and hake (brushes), as well as rare, classical Western materials that are difficult to obtain in Japan. These authentic materials bring a unique matière and depth to your work.

2. A Selection of Traditional and Modern Art Materials from Around the World

Many of our staff members are practicing artists who study and explore the properties of art materials.

Every item is carefully assessed by our team for its quality and its potential to support compelling artistic expressions.

Selecting high-quality materials does more than improve handling or expand expressive possibilities. i It is also directly connected to the durability and archival stability of the art work.

By working with reliable, high-quality materials, the integrity and intended appearance of your artwork can be preserved for years to come.

3. Support from Expert Staff

High-quality materials realize their full potential only when used with the right knowledge.

"How is this iwa-enogu applied?" "What are the properties of this washi?" "What is its origin?"—Our expert staff can answer every one of these questions, with multilingual support available.

We offer guidance on everything from the fundamental use of a material to specialized, professional techniques, including advice on material compatibility and application. Artistic expression grounded in a deep understanding of materials is not merely aesthetic—it becomes a source of true originality.
