Description
【Limited Quantity】
This solid transparent watercolor paint is made from "100% natural lapis lazuli" and is available in limited quantities.
The highest quality Afghan lapis lazuli is carefully ground into a pigment using the advanced Cennino Cennini manufacturing method and kneaded with high-quality gum arabic medium.
Lapis lazuli is hard ore and requires many steps to grind it into small particles. Since only the blue part is used, pyrite, calcite (calcite), etc. are carefully removed. Then only the darkest blue part is selected to make pigment. The higher the quality, the color has more purplish blue, and stones from Afghanistan in particular are considered to be of the best quality.
Lapis Lazuli
A natural ultramarine blue, Lapis means stone and Lazuli means blue. The pigment made from the lapis lazuli ore had been called ultramarine until the modern synthetic ultramarine was created in the 19th century. The ore becomes a pale blue when just crushed into powder. It requires the removal of pyrite, calcite, and other impurities from the ore to obtain the rich ultramarine color for painters. Lapis lazuli is considered a more expensive color than gold because the process is complicated and time-consuming, although only a few grams can be extracted from 100 grams of ore.
In a glass container with a lid (bonbonniere): D 75 mm x H 80 mm
Amount (before drying): approx. 20g
