Which White Should I Use?

White pigments are indispensable art materials in painting production.

In oil paint, it is useful as a base material for making ingredients for the ground coating and drawing highlights, and in Japanese paintings.

Pigment Tokyo has four main pigments.

At first glance, they are all the same white, but each has different characteristics. Also, if you make a mistake in the prescription, there is a possibility that problems such as cracks on the screen will occur. This time, we will deliver such a "basic ki" related to white.

① Jink White

First of all, we will introduce highly versatile jinque white.

Jink White is made from zinc oxide. You can create a slightly blue and transparent color space.

Because of its weak hidden power, it is very easy to use when it is used in mixed color. However, it is ideal to use it for finishing toning, etc., as it has the property of cracking.

Mediums can be used regardless of oil or water, so you may have had it once.

② Silver white

Silver White is white made from leading basic carbonate. Along with the jinque white, it is mainly used when mixing color.

The dryness is faster than other white, and it has a warm color.

This paint is said to be a little cautious for mixed paints because it contains lead and may darken with paint containing free sulfur.

However, there is data that such discoloration does not actually occur, so if you are worried, please use a mixed color test before using it.

It has a stronger hidden power than a jinque white, and can be used in various layers, from middle coating to finishing to form a tough coating, as well as a mixture color.

Because the specific gravity as a pigment is very heavy, it is not compatible with the medium of the water system, and is basically used only for oil -based mediums.

Until the 19th century, this silver white was all used for board painting.

By the way, the appearance of jinque white was in the middle of the 19th century, and the titanium white introduced later began to be used as paint in the early 20th century.

③ Titanium White

Titanium White is the "strongest white" in white. It is based on titanium oxide, chemically stable, and has little worry about cracks and peeling.

It has enough hidden power to make the lower layer invisible, and the color is slightly yellowish.

When using it in a mixing color, it is necessary to gradually knead it while mixing a small amount.

In addition, titanium ore, which is the raw material, has this color.

It's a bit strange that a pure white pigment is born from a black ore.

④ flour

The flour is a very soft white made from weathered glutinum.

The main component is calcium carbonate, which is a stable pigment with less discoloration. It is mainly used in coloring Japanese paintings, and is also used when making water dried paints and equipment.

The grade is applied by the mixture of the shellfish and the lower lid, and the more the former is, the higher the brightness and the color closer to pure white.

From the Nara era to the Kamakura period, the word "powdered" means lead white (silver white).

In addition, there is a white named mixing white and ceramic white, which is originally toned by various articles manufacturers.

Find the white that suits you, according to the Medium, Layer, and Expressions used.
