A Traditional Art Materials Lab for Creating the Now

A comprehensive facility for creativity combined with an art materials shop, a lab, and a workshop for exploring expression in color and matière. We research a diverse array of art materials, their uses in practice, and the expression they give rise to and then contribute to promoting the acquisition of the pertaining knowledge and techniques. Also, our staff members are artists well-versed in the materials and how they can be used, which makes it possible to provide project consultations, collaboration, and support for foreign and domestic companies in the arts and educational organizations.

Lab & Workshop

Both art material artisans and artists lavish their time cultivating knowledge of expressive techniques. The potential of art materials is expanding perpetually through artists’ endeavors. At PIGMENT TOKYO, we conduct multifaceted approaches to enhance understanding of diverse materials in terms of the formulas, use practices, cultures of color, historical backgrounds, influences of geographic environment, and chemical properties. To share the knowledge of techniques and materials acquired from them, we arrange workshops, customized lectures, and collaborative projects for enterprises in order to expand the possibilities of expressions beyond art categories.

Art Supply Shop

PIGMENT TOKYO features various selections of the world’s highest quality painting materials which support diverse artists to pursue their own technique and style. We carry a variety of pigments in around 4,500 colors, from traditional and natural pigments made of minerals and earth to effect pigments with different brightness levels utilizing cutting-edge technologies. Besides these, precious inkstones and ink sticks, more than 600 paint brush varieties, original vehicles for paint blending, Echizen Washi papers, tools and materials for traditional Western art techniques, and other rare and valuable materials are available for purchase. We continually explore, develop, and release new items in collaboration with companies and manufacturers to contribute to artists’ expression.
