Introducing art labs from Tennosu, Pigment Tokyo art supplies experts

Introduce Our Art Material Experts in PIGMENT TOKYO

Pigment Tokyo opened in July 2015 and is the fourth year this year.

Pigment Tokyo has been growing not only in the art world but also from various fields.

This lab is a lab pursuing the expression of color and the Matiere, but also a complex creative institution with workshops, museums, and shops. We research, educate, and disseminate the "articles" such as pigments, glue, brushes and brushes, their "usage", and the "expression" created by the combination of both.

At the same time, in addition to researchers and artists who have a deep knowledge of art materials and colors, there are also producers who are good at linking art and business, and functions as an atelier that provide technology and planning proposals to domestic and overseas companies. I am doing it.

In this article, we interviewed staff who are involved in artist activities while working as an artist expert in this lab, "What is it to be involved in Pigment as an artist?"

Pigment TOKYO store manager/art material expert

Masayoshi Nojo

―Nojo has been involved in Pigmet Tokyo since the opening. Please tell us about the art business of Terada warehouse and its charm.

While working as a staff member of Pigment Tokyo, I also use it in the atelier operated by Terada Warehouse, and produces it there. In addition to selling art materials, I am very attractive that art businesses from various perspectives, such as storage of art works, operating atelier, installation of art complex, and Steel Island Festival, are being led by corporations. 。

-Did you have anything you get while working for Pigment Tokyo as an artist?

Pigment Tokyo has many Japanese customers, as well as overseas customers, and there are many situations where communication in English is required.

At the beginning of the opening, I had a hard time, but by communicating with customers from various regions at the store, I was able to speak English naturally, and when I exhibited it in an overseas art fair, myself, without hesitation. I was able to give a presentation about the work.

―I would like Nogi -san's announcement of future activities.

A solo exhibition will be held in January of next year at the JD Malat Gallery gallery in London.

We are working on production for the exhibition because it will be a large solo exhibition including large works.

Pigment Lab Workshop Lecturer/Article Expert

Katsura Saito

-Are there anything good to work for pigment Tokyo?

To foster a multifaceted business view due to the store operated by Terada warehouse.

This is one big advantage.

How to operate highly rare materials and techniques with a larger society that exceeds existing roles, based on the preservation and storage industry?

Such a thinking system itself has a positive effect on personal writer activities.

In addition, the relationship with the art supplies manufacturers will be closer, so it will definitely be a rare place where you can gain highly specialized knowledge.

It is a foundation that can convert these things into nutrition and support their growth.

-Do you have any courses you want to plan?

I am convinced that if you can develop a course across the art genre in connection with the material, you will be able to provide a new experience, so I would like to move forward to the realization.

Pigment Lab Workshop Lecturer/Article Expert

Moriyama Yamato

-How do you feel about working at Pigment Tokyo?

Until now, I have been researching at art universities and acquired a doctorate. I was wondering about using each art supplies somehow, and spent time on my research for my expression. The research time was very plain, but the knowledge and skills gained there are irreplaceable treasures. However, he gave up that this treasure would not directly lead to work.

Immediately after completing the graduate school, I joined Pigment as a staff and just one year. Currently I am in charge of a workshop lecturer.

All the knowledge and skills I have accumulated so far have led to work, and I feel worthwhile every day.

One year ago, it was the first year of working adults, and the business perspective was not enough at all (laughs). One of them.

There is an environment where you can challenge without experience.

-Did you were happy to be in charge of the workshop?

I'm really happy if you can solve your questions in the workshop and make you smile. In addition, when you become a repeater, you will get more fever, thinking that you want to meet this person's expectations.

From my research experience, I have intended to understand art, but I realize that the real understanding was when I told the customer about the art materials and understood it.

―Are there anything you want to achieve in PIGMENT?

Pigment, operated by Terada Warehouse, is trying to create a new culture regardless of the fixed concept so far.

Although it looks gorgeous, it is actually made up of a continuous work. Learn, express, fail and learn again. It's painful, but I'm happy. The customers who participate in the Pigment's workshop have the same aspirations, and I feel that you are a comrade.

There are many places where you can learn art. But I think it's because I've learned that I need a place where I need a place where I can learn the essence carefully over time.

My goal is to establish Pigment as such a place.
