Drawing Lines with SK Meteor

There are a surprisingly large number of situations in which a fine brush is essentially needed, such as drawing lines for detailed depictions, signing, fixing a tiny mistake, etc.

Ideally, you should be able to find the right brush for each medium, such as the one for watercolor and acrylic paints, or the one for oil paints, however, choosing the best one from among the many available options can be a bit of a challenge.

In this article, I would like to introduce and focus on a brush that has sharp and fine bristles. This brush is best for painting details, drawing long straight lines, and working well with any medium.

First, we have SK Meteor, a Kolinsky sable brush made by Namura Taiseido from Tokyo, Japan. Kolinsky is a type of weasel that inhabits Siberia and China. It is known for its excellent elasticity and high retention.

In particular, SK Meteor is made with a long brush tip and designed for drawing delicate, smooth lines and long curves.

A total of five sizes are available, from 16 x Ø1mm tip to 27 x Ø3mm tip.

Recently, this brush has been secretly attracting attention since a very famous contemporary artist uploaded a video of it being used in their studio.

Therefore, let's take a closer look at the entire product line. No.3 (tip 21 x Ø2mm) was used for this article.

If you are starting with a new brush, it is necessary to clean the glue off of the bristles.

You may place your brush and soak it in a painting palette filled with water, and by doing this, you can remove the glue without hurting the bristles.

Therefore, let's first try it with transparent watercolor.

Paint: Transparent Watercolor

As the picture shown here, thanks to the long tip, the brush could absorb paints and water better and be able to draw a long and steady line with a single stroke.

For this reason, SK Meteor is suitable for delicate work such as drawing lines and adding details rather than coloring.

Next, I tried it with acrylic paint.

As you can see, it was possible to draw sharp lines while retaining the hard edges characteristic of acrylic paints.

Since the SK Meteor can be used with a high viscosity medium like acrylic emulsion, it won’t be any problem even if it is used for oil paints.

The price for the smallest size is JPY 1,430 (tax included), which is an affordable price range that makes it popular.

SK Meteor can also be used for free time hobbies and craft paints, including plastic models, figures, and nails.

For those of you who are looking for brushes that can draw details and fine lines, perhaps SK Meteor is the perfect one to start your journey!
