Most pigments have their historical and geographical roots.
This Maya series is inspired by the history of Mayan culture, and derived the pigments from nature.
The Mayan civilization emerged in the heart of the American continent and is a civilization which has been highly recognized as a very advanced culture in terms of architecture, science and art.
The use of the word "Mayan" to refer to a group of people who shared a common cultural and linguistic traditions later blossomed into an artistic endeavor during the seventh century of the Classical Era.
The Mayans had created an extraordinary pigment called Mayan Blue, which was made by mixing the leaves of Indigofera Suffruticosa with natural clay.
To them, Mayan Blue was considered the color of God. It was used in ceremonies, art and murals, back in those days, there was nothing that could compare to the beauty and durability of this pigment.
Furthermore, they seem to have developed a technique for modifying colors, which is not only limited to Mayan blue, but red, green, and yellow pigments are also believed to have been made from Indigofera Suffruticosa.
※This product is based on the pigments used in the DERIVAN Maya series of acrylic paints.
