季節を彩るグリーティングカード『彩墨セットで描く』

Color the seasons with Greeting Cards

Saiboku (colored ink) has been introduced in our previous articles.

It is recommended for beginners as well as for souvenirs because you can experience the charm of real ink in a casual and enjoyable way.

Ordinary ink is made of soot and animal glue. However, this colored ink painting material is made by kneading pigments that usually used in oil paints and acrylics. The color ink provides a vivid splash of colouring, which is barely seen in Iwaenogu (natural mineral pigments).

PIGMENT TOKYO Selection「Aya Color Ink Stick Set / 3 Colors」

This set includes 3 items of coloured ink:

two colors of clear and vivid blue, and a gentle translucency whitish Gofun (chalk).

This set is suitable for both beginners and experienced artists.

The inkstone is included in the set, and it is as simple to use as it gets.

All you have to do is add a little water (or warm water) to the inkstone, and grind the ink.

At first glance, the inkstone appears to be almost black, but the pigmentation of the inkstone can produce such a vivid blue color.

In addition, this summer's campaign, "Water and Blue", includes a limited edition greeting card for painting use.

Therefore, let's have a look at how to draw it in practically.

Firstly, prepare a water jug and grind the ink.

You can refer to this video on how to properly use an inkstone.

After grinding the colors you want,it’s time to draw!

Apply the color with a paint brush.

It is also possible to use a water-soaked paintbrush to perform a blurred effect.

These series of Aya Color Ink sets are able to create an elegant expression of blurring effect, thus allowing you to enjoy a different kind of aesthetic from watercolors.

Let’s apply another color as well. You can see very clearly that even the same shade of blue has a completely different coloring appearance.

Lastly, we will use Gofun to create highlights.

Gofun is a natural white pigment made from weathered shells, so it has a characteristic graceful texture.

Let it dry and you're done!

Perhaps you can try making your own seasonal greeting card with Saiboku too!
