“The True Story of the Paints Vol.1 ―Water-based Medium―” was held on June 16th by Yoshiaki Aoki, the professor of Kyoto University of Art and Design and the adviser of PIGMENT TOKYO.
In the beginning of the lecture, he talked about the history of Japanese art education since Meiji period from a critical point of view. The importance of learning material science, such as mediums and pigments were also explained.
Then, he introduced his collections of various materials and paints. The participants were all interested because of the rare product that is not sold in other art materials stores.
After the explanations on the materials, he started to give a demonstration.
Adding the essential vehicles for making paints, he showed the process of making various water-based mediums from acrylic emulsion gel medium.
Lastly, using the knowledges gained through the lecture, all the participants made the mediums by themselves.
Even after the workshop, the participants asked many questions.
The workshop ended a great prosperity.
